The Remuneration Committee makes recommendations to the Board for ensuring that the directors’ remuneration is appropriate to attract, motivate and retain executive directors of the quality needed to run the Group’s business successfully. The Committee believes that remuneration packages should contain significant performance-related elements. Performance targets are established to align incentives with the interests of shareholders, using an appropriate balance of long- and short-term targets. These include not only traditional financial indicators but also personal targets, successful investment, innovation, staff development, customer satisfaction, achievement of regulatory requirements, including health and safety and environmental targets. The constitution and operation of the Remuneration Committee complies with the principles and provisions of the Combined Code and this is detailed in the remuneration report.
